Will you be celebrating the festival of Diwali?
Diwali is a festival of lights and one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and some Buddhists, notably Newar Buddhists. This year it is in November.
With Diwali approaching, a lovely Garran Primary school family created some wonderful clay elephants of the god Ganesha.

Here is how you can make clay statues:
- Air dry clay is very user-friendly material, almost like play-dough.
- Make the main shapes of the statue first, then add more detail with smaller shapes, and use a pencil or wooden stick to make patterns in the clay.
- Use water on fingertips in between shaping to fill the crevices and cracks on the model.
- The clay hardens or dries within 24-hours, so it will be ready to paint and decorate.
