National Reconciliation Week

Are you acknowledging 2022 Reconciliation Week?

Reconciliation Week is from May 27th 2023 to June 3rd and it is an important time we can make to acknowledge the progress of Australia and how far we have come as an ethically diverse nation and to say ‘sorry’ for the past hurts of the traditional custodians of the land.

Each year Reconciliation Week has a theme; and this year’s is Be Brave – Make Change. Here are three ways you can spend your week:

  1. Brave the Canberra winter weather: Meet up with your neighbours or families from the school and go on a bush walk.
  2. Change your profile photo: Create a piece of indigenous inspired artwork and share it as a statement on your social media profiles.
  3. Be Brave and introduce yourself to someone new and listen to their stories and values.

More about National Reconciliation Week:

27 May to 3 June commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey: the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

“Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.”
