Mum’s gift of aboriginal art

Do you remember this beautiful painting gifted to the school to mark Reconciliation Day 2021?

On 27th May to 3rd June, Garran Primary School acknowledged National Reconciliation Week; the theme this year was MORE THAN A WORD. RECONCILIATION TAKES ACTION… This means to do something rather than just speak about it.

Some parents went for a bush walk to celebrate the Ngunnawal land we learn on, and children created Aboriginal inspired artwork, as well as learnt about this important time in Australian history.

Garran mum, Neptina, expresses her culture through Aboriginal art and she donated this wonderful painting to the school to mark Reconciliation Day 2021 – a painting that highlights the beauty of the country and the importance of being ourselves;

Neptina says, “ -This painting is about remembering to re-centre yourself and to reflect on all the positive things we have achieved.”

The painting will be displayed in the school – so please do look out for it and in that moment; remember, re-centre and reflect on the positive.
